Shortly after competing on American Gladiators, I received a letter in the mail. It was all my medical records that I had requested from the hospital I was born in. It had my handprints and feet prints and all the names and my birthmother's name and all nurses name blacked out. The Lord must have heard my cries and known, because the black marker was no longer working well and I could put the papers up to the light and read the name clearly of my birthmother. My heart was pounding with excitement. The whole story of finding my birthmother is another book project called “Tender Touch” and hopefully will be ready for print within the next ten years as the story is still unfolding. I was able to meet my birthmother, tell her that I loved her and share with her the love of Christ. When I first contacted her she wondered what I wanted, but as time passed she became interested in my life and her grandchildren’s life. After nearly nine years, she is a wonderful friend and has become a Christian. A beautiful story of searching and adoption.

tae kwan doAfter competing in American Gladiators, I still felt that the Lord has something else in store for my life, so I decided to try an even more modest sport, Tae Kwon Do. I began training at Kim’s tae Kwon Do academy under Master Kim (who had coached several Olympians) and I was told I had the skills of an Olympian (probably due to my gymnastics training.) So I quickly pursued my black belt, pushing through the belt levels and training many hours a day between the 8-12 clients a day I had personal training at Bally’s Health Club. I became one of the top trainers on staff and well known for my creative and challenging training style. I was nicknamed, “Sergeant!”

While competing in a sparring competition, I slammed my leg into my opponent’s chest breaking her rib and fracturing my foot, and months after that broke my other foot playing an aggressive soccer game. During that time on crutches, the Lord gave me great opportunity to reflect on my life. Iouch! became convicted that perhaps fighting was not what I as a woman should be doing. It certainly did not fall into the category of “a meek and quiet spirit.” As I was healing I had to do some serious soul searching as to what my goals in life truly were. I met a friend, Sandi Levi, at my church who had five children. Sandi truly intrigued me because she always dressed modestly and had her children under her control and seemed to love motherhood. I began to ask her questions about her walk with the Lord and why she did the things she did and she graciously took the time to show me what she had learned in God’s Word. I still had the greatest desire as a Christian to do what was right and listen to God’s calling. Not long after that, I found that I was pregnant with my first child. I was in tears. I did not know the first thing about raising children, although I loved children and taught Sunday School (my enthusiasm made me one of their favorites).
